Rescue Organisation Ireland (ROI)

Eagraíocht Tarrthála Éireann

Formed in March 2008 Rescue Organisation Ireland (ROI) has come a long way in a short time. Built on the drive and commitment of members of the Irish Fire & Rescue Services (including support & assistance from colleagues in NI Fire & Rescue Service) as well as the support of the IDP and the WRO, the ROI has to date held 2 National Extrication Challenges (Dublin & Sligo) and 4 National Skills Development Days in Carlow, Dungarvan & Dundalk. The committee was officially formed and the ROI Constitution ratified in Sep 2008 by it's members who come from all corners of the island. Together they are working tirelessly to bring the focus of casualty centred training & rescue to operational emergency responding personnel across Ireland.

Through ROI's holding of Skills Development Days - with Carlow Fire & Rescue Service (June & Nov 2008), Waterford County Fire & Rescue Service (June 2009) and Dundalk Fire & Rescue Service (Nov 2009) - the interest and participation in the rescue challenge concept has been steadily growing. The two National Extrication Challenges held to date have been extremely successful, the initial event hosted by Dublin Fire Brigade (Mar 2009) saw 9 teams take part, this has grown to 11 teams from 10 diferent Fire Authorities in the recent event held by Sligo Fire & Rescue Service (Mar 2010). World Rescue Organisation assessors and officials have attended and partaken in all of these events giving their support and expertise to the Organisation. All of this has resulted in ROI now having Level 2 membership status within the WRO.

In December 2009 ROI made a formal bid to host the annual World Rescue Challenge. This bid proved successful and now the 2010 event will be held in Cork City, hosted with the assistance of Cork Fire Brigade. It promises to be a spectacular event taking place right in the centre of Cork on the 2nd - 5th September. The event will consist of a 3 day Extrication Challenge, a 2 day Trauma Challenge and 2 days of Seminar Workshops. We hope to see you there!
